Newbridge will face The K club in the semifinal next Sunday morning with Castlewarden taking on Kileen. The final will take place the same afternoon. In other interclub news our Fred Perry side were beaten 3 2 last Friday evening by Millicent GC. What a battle that was with 3 matches going to the 20th, 21st and 22nd hole respectively. it was car head lights time by the last groups finished. Our Mixed foursomes team lead by Mick Seery had a great win last Wednesday evening against Blessington Lakes GC. Well done to all involved.
Newbridge won this afternoons Duggan Cup match against Lisheen springs GC. Although the result was 5 0 all of the matches were very tight with Lisheen all sq in 2 and down in one after 12 holes. But Newbridge realizing that they were up against it battled back in excellent style to eventually win their 3 home matches. Newbridge got the 1st match away with our 2nd match being called in while we were ahead. Well done to all.
Darren Quine emerged victorious in last weekend’s club competition. Playing off 10 Darren had 41 pts one clear of Marc O Conner (19) whose return of 40 pts was good enough to win Cl 3. John Tierney Cl 2 (13) notched up another class win with a score of 39 pts. Tom Byrne (3) won class 1 with 38 pts, well done Tom and Noel Downes won Cl 4 with 36 pts, well done Noel.
Ozzie O Toole (5) and Skinner Casey (2) took time out from their preparing their team for the Pierce Purcell qualifier in a couple of weeks showing their charges how to perform over the weekend when returning a score of 48 pts to win the fourball better ball competition. Some score gents. In 2nd spot was with a return of 46 pts, jeez these guys are playing a different game to me, were Richard Shaw (6) and James Johnstone (22). In 3rd spot with 42 pts were Noel King (5) and Mick Sweeney (7), now thats more my level. Nearly in the frame partner, just the one out.
After getting a bye in the first round of the new GUI over 55’s all Ireland Competition we will Face our new neighbors Millicent GC in the 2nd round. This is a really busy month for Interclub and arranging the fixture so as not to clash or interfere with other teams preparations was Brexit like in difficulty.
As the Duggan cup is a similar age bracket we will work off the same panel with a few additions/subtractions. Our match against Millicent will tee off in both venues at 4pm on Friday May 17th. The competition format is fourball better ball match play with the low man of the match going to scratch and the other 3 players getting 9/10ths of the difference. Newbridge will have 3 matches at home, best of luck guys.
Afternoon folks, just a note to remind us all of the open singles taking place this Wednesday. Can members who make arrangements to play please put their preferred tee times up on the BRS. We all need to use the BRS for our open competitions in particular as visitors logging on seeing no names down for open events might get the wrong impression about our wonderful course. We are also losing revenue from people on their own who are looking to play in the open. USE THE BRS FOR xxxx sake.
This season’s Duggan cup (over 50’s) Campaign gets underway on Sunday 12th May at 2 15pm in both clubs. Newbridge will be up against Lisheen Springs GC. Newbridge will have 3 matches at home. Lisheen will be seeking to rebalance the books after losing to us last year. Newbridge will be hoping to go all the way having made the semi finals last year.
