This years Duggan Cup (for over 50’s) draw has just been posted on host club Edenderry’s website. Newbridge GC have drawn a bye in the first round and will be at home the winners of Lisheen Springs and Carton House in the 2nd round which is to be played by May 19th. The draw has been especially kind to us this year with us being at home again should we come through the 2nd round.
Eamon Branigan really is a remarkable player, after considerably lowering his handicap to the mid single figure range last year Eamon fired in a score of 22 pts at the weekend singling his intent to keep the downward pressure on his handicap. Brilliant stuff Eamon. Cat 1 was won by Dougie Houlihan with 20 pts. Dougie played an important part in last years run to the Duggan cup semi final partnering John Lonergan in every single round…..which leads me to Cat 2 which was won of the same mark, 20 pts by, guess who, yep John Lonergan, must check with the boys how many matches they actually won in the Duggan cup, “ah boy sure the feckin manager always played us away” Well done John boy might be the only thing Cork win this year. Cat 3, always a dogfight of a category was won by Bernard Moorehouse with a return of 19 pts, well done Bernard. Supervalu vouchers on the way to you all well done again.
So we are in the last week of the league. In the team comp “Under Par” in 2nd spot need to replace a 36 pts with a 40 pts as they are 3 behind “Are We There Yet” who in turn are looking to dump their lowest score of 37 pts.
Last year “Find the joker” provided much needed revenue to fund our progression into the latter stages of a number of Interclub competitions and many thanks to our regular and occasional players. This season we now have an option where you can sign up to play every week with the fee being taken from your Competition funds. Details of how this operates and permission slips to allow the weekly deduction can be found on the counter beside the competition sign in book. Please support thanks Folks.
Afternoon all, that time of year the club would like to remind members that the annual subs are now about due. Subscription to a GUI affiliated golf club is the most cost effective way to play and compete in the game we love. Paying your sub on time helps to run the club and maintain the course effectively throughout the year.
Something that needs to be said folks, listening to members around the club in recent weeks it seems that instances of people not showing up for their slot or cancelling very late are increasing. This can be a pain in the Swiss Roll especially if it means that you are a 2 ball or 3 ball playing behind a 4 ball. There are options available to the club if this pattern persists. So can all of us please do each other the courtesy of always showing up or letting our playing partners or club know if you do have a make a late cancellation. Its not as if the weather is bad in anyway…..
James Butler from the Big Hitters won the weekends comp with an excellent score of 22 pts. James strong finish saw him eclipsing Cat 1 winner Jim Goulding on the last 6, only one over Jim well done, (Duggan cup and Fred Perry management team please note) and Cat 2 winner John Tierney on the back 3, unlucky John. Cat 3 was won by Pat Gleeson with a return of 20 pts, hatS off to Pat, well done sir. In the team event with 2 cards still to go “Under Par” and “Are We There Yet” lead the way on 276 pts from “Slumdog Slingers” on 276. with the “Heebee Geebies” a further 3 back on……ehhhhmmmm oh yea 273. The top 4 teams are now looking to better 36 pts in the last 2 rounds so all to play for gents.
